Today began with French and then it was on to writing. The kids are creating a bank of story starters using the techniques learned in class to begin a personal narrative and to come up with ideas for stories.
Idea generators are: Think of a place, person or object that'll remind you of a time that you did something that is story-worthy or worth retelling.
The other aspect that we've talked about is beginning a story, their story, with a catchy beginning. It has been suggested that starting with dialogue, action, a description of the setting or even from the end are always great ways to begin a story. The goal is that those reading will want to read on. Hook them!
In math we spent 1 1/2 periods talking about the different types of graphs. Bar graphs are used for....Line graphs are used to show.... and pie charts are used to.... If you can fill in the blanks, email me for a prize! ajwagner@scdsb.on.ca.
Music was during 5th period. The kids clapped out different rhythms and now are working in groups to create their own song, using pitch patterns and their own 4 beat rhythms for a total of 24 beats. That period went quickly, so we'll continue this on Monday. Drama was during 6th and then it was home time!
Have a great weekend!
