Today began with French and therefore I didn't get into the classroom until 9:50 where we did language to start our part of the day. We concentrated on the long i sound and realized that there were many ways, once again that a long vowel sound can be made. One exception that we found was the word "height", It breaks all of the rules of creating the long "i" sound.....oh English....why can't you just make sense aaallllll of the time?
We read "Run" because our goal was to finish it before the month of September was over and we did so at the end of the day! Phew!! On to our next read aloud....I wonder what it will be??
3rd and 4th period were dedicated to subtraction and we used (our name for it) expand-a-traction. Yes, we expanded numbers first and then subtracted them. If anything, this is a good way to check our answers. The kids are getting more and more competent at subtraction and grouping. They even learned a trick when there are many zeros in a number and there is a need to borrow! Ask your child if they remember what that trick is....here is a question for them....30056 - 1677
In the afternoon we watched a Bill Nye the Science Guy about the water cycle and related the water cycle to changes of state, using words like evaporation, condensation and precipitation (even collection). We then made a cloud in a jar. It was pretty cool!
The end of the day was dedicated to finishing our book and that we did.
Sorry this is so late!!
