Today began with our book "Run". Terry Fox ran through a little town called "Millwater" in Nova Scotia and Winston and his dad watched and eventually Winston Sr. wrote an article for the newspaper about it. I almost cried, but the Terry Fox story does that to me every time.
Most of the kids handed in their stories today and it was an interesting way to get a benchmark on everyone's writing. Of course, this was tricky for some, but it was great to see everyone trying their best! These stories will be published by next week and can be read by parents on Meet the Cre...Teacher night then.
During Science class we watched a Bill Nye video on Matter. He talked a lot about Absolute Zero and even showed the audience what it is like to use liquid nitrogen. Did you know that there is 78% nitrogen in the air?
French was during 4th period and then it was out for recess time!
After recess we had a QSP assembly to encourage the kids to sell magazines as a fundraiser for the school. Of course, there are great prizes as well....very enticing!
DPA and then music took us to the end of the day. We learned to associate the Boomwhackers with the solfa scale and even learned the hand signals for the solfa scale!
We also learned this song and we'll be presenting it at the Remembrance Day ceremony on the 11th of November. It is a beautiful 2 part song! Click to go to the Assignment's Page to listen now.
So we've got to do some word study this year, because this is an area of weakness that we'd like to strengthen in our class.
Today we went back to the basics....vowels.
Today's contest is this: name all of the vowels, and an example of two words for each vowel. One word will represent the short sound of the vowel and one the long. Email me please: ajwagner@mail1.scdsb.on.ca
See you tomorrow!
