Today began with silent reading and then the kids listened to the 2nd chapter of Hatchet. Brian was scared and deciding upon his next step!! The engine JUST conked out at the end of the chapter.
We then concentrated on the Long U sound. We did a little Long U hunt within the confines of our classroom. We were looking for u-e, ew, oo, u and ue words. Words like food, Judicial, True, Newspaper, university etc. This was a good way to think through the fact that there are many ways to spell Long u words.
We started to write our good copies of our friendly letters. We would like to send these, so will require stamps in order to do so. I'd like to send them from the mailbox by the school as a whole group. Please send in an envelope with the appropriate stamp on it in order to send them by Friday.
After recess we did music. We had a little review and then a small quiz to test the knowledge of the students. The kids then coloured the notes on the staff for the song Ode to Joy. Some of the kids got to play the song because they are becoming more and more familiar with the boomwhackers and the colours that they represent.
French was during 4th period. There are a few kids who need to get their tests signed. If that is you, then please remember to show it to one of your parents.
5th and 6th were dedicated to subtraction after a great DPA game called Inspector Clueless.
